Keep Your Inspirations Tidy With VisualizeUs

I have an “Inspirations” folder on my computer desktop. It’s full of images that I like, and is organized by month. It worked well for me, but was just a static pile of pictures on my hard drive. Then a friend gave me an invitation to Dropular, which is an exclusive image bookmarking site. I loved it; then it went offline. Then it came back, but remains deep in the throes of development. So I looked elsewhere, and found VisualizeUs. It’s open to anyone, and is a great way to save, find, tag, and sort images you like. It also has a NSFW (Not Safe For Work) filter, which is a feature that remains absent from the current iteration of Dropular. The only sidebar I offer to my hearty recommendation of VisualizeUs is that it can sometimes run on the slow side. But I have a feeling that their infrastructure will see steady improvement as they continue to add new features and receive solid user feedback. Check it out.

Conduit Chimes Tutorial

Our goal was to help 400 people play instruments at the same time. So, we asked, what’s an inexpensive material we could make instruments from and how can we equip so many people to play together?

We used 1/2″ conduit in four different lengths to create four tones.

E 284 mm
A 244.5 mm
B 229 mm
C# 219 mm

It was a roll of the dice, but in the end, people connected in a whole new way.

Making Music Happen

Watch a movie, and you’ll see how important music really is to the final product. It helps tell the story. And whether it’s a feature length film or a three minute spot promoting your next event, music is essential in helping viewers engage with the content.

Uncover The Color has some incredible musical contributors. Here are just two :

Greg Perkins is a fantastic musician whose contributions to Uncover The Color reflect his vast musical influences. Greg describes his track, “Rm 218” as and “acoustic party time.” With a jangly acoustic guitar, 4 on the floor kick drum and some sleigh bells, we tend to agree.

And he wants listeners to “dance the night away” with his track “Motorbike” which features everything electronic.

We’re not the only ones that think Greg is super. The picture on the left is from the feature of Greg on the Grain and Gram gentleman’s blog (Created by Uncover The Color contributors, Danny Jones and Jonpaul Douglass).

Now, take a look at John Petty’s epic orchestral compositions. Nothing says “epic” quite as loudly as his track “Suspense in C Minor.” John suggests using this song for “a video trailer or short segment.”

John describes his song, “Desert Ambience” as “slightly dark and mysterious.” The reverberant, legato cello solo gives this song a more relaxed and contemplative feel.

We’re proud of the excellence and intensity with which these two artist create. They certainly reflect the calibre of work and creativity that embody who Uncover The Color really is.

In Progress: Radial Image Series

Just thought I’d give a quick update. I’ve been working on a series of interesting image elements, and I have to say they are making me want to get a Spirograph! Remember those? One of my favorite toys as a kid. The series I’m developing relies heavily on concentric radial patterns, which are tons of fun to make but a bit dizzying too. Be looking out for high-res B&W images of these — good for mattes, textures, you name it.
