Sweet Ambient Music

One of the biggest components in creating a reflective environment is music.  Of course, the first option is calling your friends in your city’s best ambient band.  But if that’s not an option, here are some recorded alternatives.  These are tracks that will fit well into the background of the environment. socialmedia161x218

Last weekend, Aradhana Tiwari, Director of the Play the Moment theater company, hosted a panel at the Shakespeare Theater in Orlando, FL.  I was honored to sit with – among others – Elizabeth Maupin, 20 year theater critic for the Orlando Sentinel; Margot Haliday Knight, President and CEO of United Arts; and Mark Baratelli, of thedailycity.com – to discuss “the effects of social media on the arts.” Read More

Keep Your Inspirations Tidy With VisualizeUs

I have an “Inspirations” folder on my computer desktop. It’s full of images that I like, and is organized by month. It worked well for me, but was just a static pile of pictures on my hard drive. Then a friend gave me an invitation to Dropular, which is an exclusive image bookmarking site. I loved it; then it went offline. Then it came back, but remains deep in the throes of development. So I looked elsewhere, and found VisualizeUs. It’s open to anyone, and is a great way to save, find, tag, and sort images you like. It also has a NSFW (Not Safe For Work) filter, which is a feature that remains absent from the current iteration of Dropular. The only sidebar I offer to my hearty recommendation of VisualizeUs is that it can sometimes run on the slow side. But I have a feeling that their infrastructure will see steady improvement as they continue to add new features and receive solid user feedback. Check it out. Read More

In Progress: Radial Image Series

radial-graphicJust thought I’d give a quick update. I’ve been working on a series of interesting image elements, and I have to say they are making me want to get a Spirograph! Remember those? One of my favorite toys as a kid. The series I’m developing relies heavily on concentric radial patterns, which are tons of fun to make but a bit dizzying too. Be looking out for high-res B&W images of these — good for mattes, textures, you name it.
